Xiaomi Plans Yearly Smartphone Chip Releases and AI Assistant for Global Markets


Chinese technology company Xiaomi is preparing a major shift in its smartphone strategy. The company plans to launch a new in-house smartphone processor every year and expand its AI assistant to international markets as it continues to grow globally. 

The announcement came during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, where Xiaomi executives shared their long-term vision for building a stronger technology ecosystem.


Xiaomi’s Plan to Launch a New Chip Every Year

Xiaomi introduced its first modern in-house smartphone chip called XRing O1 in 2025. The processor was designed to power premium Xiaomi devices and reduce the company’s dependence on external chip suppliers like Qualcomm and MediaTek

According to company president Lu Weibing, Xiaomi now aims to release updated versions of its smartphone chip every year.

This strategy is similar to the approach used by major technology companies such as Apple and Samsung, which design their own processors to tightly integrate hardware and software. 

By developing its own chips, Xiaomi hopes to:

  1. Improve performance and efficiency in its smartphones
